What type of food does Avalon serve?

Avalon offers a diverse menu of hearty meals, combining influences from around the globe, from Europe to Asia and Modern Australia.

Our core menu is well established, and is so popular with our regular diners that we've hardly changed it in 30 years… we wouldn't dare! But, we do like to keep things interesting, so our team of chefs are continually coming up with new dishes to try, which feature on our daily specials menu.

Our carefully curated drinks list is a mix of classics and cool, featuring an extensive selection of wines, craft beers, cocktails and spirits.

We have a team of five chefs who come from a diverse range of backgrounds, each bringing their own skills, interests and experience to the kitchen. We also have two apprentice Chefs studying and learning with us. Rather than operating in a typical hierarchy, our team of Chefs collaborate with Restaurateurs Dylan Brookes and David Cartwright to set the culinary direction for menus and events.

Can you cater for dietary restrictions and allergies?

Yes. We will do our best to accommodate food allergies and dietary requirements. When making a reservation, please add your food allergies / restrictions to your reservation notes.

Our menu contains allergens and is prepared in a kitchen that handles nuts, shellfish, sesame and gluten. Whilst all reasonable efforts are taken to accommodate guest dietary needs, we cannot guarantee that our food will be allergen free.

Is Avalon wheelchair accessible?

Avalon is set in the dress circle of the historic Savoy Picture Theatre in main street Katoomba, built in 1926.

Access to the dining room and cocktail bar is via a flight of approx. 20 steps (pictured here). The steps are approx. 1.8m wide with handrails provided on both sides. There are also 3 steps from the street level at the foyer entrance.

Due to the age and design of the building, unfortunately there is no elevator or ramps.
